In Midnight Season 1 I was playing a Mistweaver Monk, and it was a really fun spec to play. It had a surprising amount of damage output for a healer, and a lot of passive healing to help with maintenance in dungeons. In season 2 it feels a lot worse, though; it does a lot less healing and some of the buttons just don’t feel worth pushing. Resto, on the other hand, seems to be maintaining its position of “not necessarily the best but still very good”.

I’m mostly focused on running Mythic+ keys, doing open world/solo content, and a bit of collecting.

I’m still working on importing and analysing data here. There’s only so much time to update the website with all the actual playing of WoW! Check out my profile on Simple Armory for more details. For now, here are my recent achievements:

History and alts

I’ve played World of Warcraft on and off again for years. I started playing properly when Battle for Azeroth was current, carried on into Shadowlands, then only briefly dipped into the following expansions. I’m back for Midnight, and am enjoying it so far.

In BfA I mained a Beast Mastery Hunter, who switched over to Marksmanship for Shadowlands as it was a significant free DPS increase. When I took a break from WoW, I ended up playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV and really enjoyed healing there. When I came back to WoW I rolled a Holy Priest, and started out playing Midnight with that. It started to feel a bit underwhelming as we pushed out of the really low level Mythic+ keys, though. It’s not particularly well rated this expansion, and as a direct healer it wasn’t particularly impressive. In FFXIV the direct healers tend to have very powerful healing spells to make up for their lack of shields. Holy Priest has mediocre healing spells, and doesn’t really have a good way of mitigating incoming damage, or maintaining people. I started trying out other healing specs, and really liked the MW Monk.

I didn’t think I was going to like it because it’s a melee class, but I’ve been really enjoying it so far. It does a large amount of passive healing as you do damage, can put a large shield on a people, and still has some useful cooldowns for fixing things. It also handily scratches the “healers should be doing damage” itch that FFXIV has instilled in me. I’m actually much happier as a melee in dungeons than I thought I’d be; it helps being close to the tank to keep track of what’s going on (and where they’re running off to!). It’s also fun in solo content: it puts out enough damage that things don’t take too long to kill, and has terrific self-sustain. When I was playing Priest I’d switch to Shadow (the DPS spec) for most solo content, but I don’t feel the need to switch away from Mistweaver.

Alas, in season 2, Mistweaver was hit fairly hard with a nerf bat, doing significantly less healing, and its season 2 tier set was pretty lacklustre. So I followed the flavour-of-the-month and went to Resto Shaman. I’d tried it a bit in season 1 and didn’t really like dealing with totems, but it’s not that bad after getting used to it and writing a few macros. Having both an interrupt and a lust is very nice, too.

I’ve also levelled some alts this expansion. Mechath was a character I played when I dipped into Dragonflight, but I’m mostly just using it for gathering now. Methach I levelled to use as a tank for achievements; I don’t think I want to play one in any serious content, though.
